OUR MISSION

The mission of the Housing Authority of the City of Fort Lauderdale is to assist low-income families with safe, decent, and affordable housing opportunities as they strive to improve their lives and achieve self-sufficiency. The Housing Authority is committed to operating in an efficient, ethical, and professional manner, and will create and maintain partnerships with its clients and appropriate community agencies in order to accomplish this mission.

OUR HISTORY

The Housing Authority of the City of Fort Lauderdale, (HACFL) was established in 1938 under the U.S. Housing Act of 1937 and Chapter 421, Florida Statutes, to provide for the needs of our City’s low-income residents.

 

Created by the City of Fort Lauderdale in 1938, the HACFL has actively developed, managed, and maintained decent and affordable housing in the community for more than eighty years. The Housing Authority currently manages approximately 95 public housing units, 170 affordable housing units, 1,250 tax credit units, and administers over 3,133 housing choice vouchers. We offer services to help residents achieve self-sufficiency and improve their lives such as the Family Self-Sufficiency Program, the Step-Up Apprenticeship Initiative. The Family Self-Sufficiency Program helps residents achieve independence from all types of governmental assistance by providing opportunities for employment, education, homeownership, counseling, and other social service assistance. The Step-Up Apprenticeship Program provides low-income residents access to education, job skills, and employment opportunities while working to rehabilitate housing in the community. The HACFL continues to focus its efforts on creating, providing, and increasing affordable housing opportunities to Broward County residents.
